Almond Thumbprint Cookies with Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” ~ Charles M. Schulz

Thumbprint Cookies With  Dark Chocolate Centers

Thumbprint cookies traditionally have an indentation in the center that is filled with jam. These cookies are also known as butter balls, Polish tea cakes or bird’s nest cookies.

Indentation in the thumbprint
The origin of this cookie is the cause of much consternation. Some believe that the Jews from Eastern Europe invented them. Others state that this cookie originated in Poland. Wherever they were first made, they are very popular all over the world.
I like most jams, don’t get me wrong, but I love chocolate. I’ll try anything that has chocolate in it. If I’m really desperate, I’ll eat chocolate chips out of the bag to satisfy my cravings. I even have chocolate tea.
So when I found this recipe on Food52, I knew I had to try it. These cookies are little bites of perfection.

This cookie is so good; you should double the recipe because twenty four cookies will disappear in a heartbeat.
