The Mean Green Smoothie

‘Every human being is the author of his own health or disease’ – Buddha

A drink with health benefits.

The health benefits of all things green have been talked about quite a bit.  I have to admit that I did not jump on the bandwagon until recently.  I tried green tea and didn’t find it very palatable.  Also, a thick green drink reminded me of slime and was not very appealing.

A few weeks ago, I happened to catch an episode of Dr. Oz.  He had Joe Cross on as a guest.  Joe lost over 100 pounds by juicing.  Several other audience members had followed Joe’s program and they too lost weight. The health benefits sounded amazing but I don’t own a juicer; and I wasn’t sure I wanted to make that investment if I wasn’t going to like the juices.

By coincidence, although I don’t think there really are any coincidences, a few days later I saw Kelsey Nixon on the Cooking channel.  She made a smoothie that did not have any dairy component.  Also, I didn’t need to have a juicer.  This smoothie was pure green fruits, vegetable and green tea.  I tried this drink and it was delicious. I have become a believer.

I wanted to share the recipe with you.

Gather the ingredients.

Green smoothie ingredients

Freeze the green grapes ahead of time.

Prepare the green tea of your choice.  Cool it.  I found that I liked it very cold to start.

Brewed green tea

In the container of a blender, add the spinach, green tea, kiwi, granny smith apple, 1 sprig of mint and the frozen grapes.  Process until smooth, adding extra tea if you want the mixture thinner.
