Quality and Freshness
There are rows of sparkling blue and white tents, adorable children with painted faces and live music. You will also find picnic tables to sit at and enjoy the delicious prepared foods and throngs of people participating in all this activity. This is the face of my local farmer’s market in Delmar, New York. It is open on Saturday, June through December, from 9am to 1pm.

More and more people want to know where their food comes from and how it is grown. Freshness and high quality are important. These desires have spurred the growth of local markets. According to the USDA, there were 7864 farmers’ markets at the end of 2012. In the last few years, markets have increased by 9.6% annually. How lucky are we?
The freshest fruits and vegetables,
local honey and beeswax candles from Lloyd Spear Beekeeper,
homemade bread,
cookies, pies and scones,
fresh eggs and herbs are just some of the items found at our farmers markets.
This type of venue is not only great for all the farmers and shoppers; but it is great for the community as well. With our busy lives, the market provides the chance to socialize with friends and neighbors. The traffic that is generated helps other local businesses; and our money stays in our towns and cities.
I hope some of these images will encourage you to frequent your own farmer’s market.
